After looking at costs, I'd be paying more for Veeam than it costs to run the environment in the first place with VMware! I'm not sure what else is out there but what is everyone else using? I love Veeam, but I can't justify the massive price increase. This is an every year purchase as they are going away from the perpetual with support based model and to a purchase the product every year model. Well, I was just informed that Veeam is going away from socket-based licenses in 2021 and if I want to back up a new host(s), I need to buy instance-based licensing at $1100 per 10 VMs.
TLDR - See Edit#3 below, things have been clarified, perpetual socket-based licenses are not going away in 2021, miscommunications within Veeam.
